Scoops of Success at SIGEP 2024

Supporting Taiwan's Gelato World Cup Dream

In the dynamic world of baking, Chewco proudly stands as a supporter of creativity and innovation. Our recent sponsorship of a team of baking students from Taiwan has led to an extraordinary journey to the Gelato World Cup, hosted at the renown SIGEP trade fair in Italy. This collaboration not only underscores Chewco's dedication to nurturing the next generation of baking talent but also celebrates the spirit of culinary excellence on the global stage.

Taiwan's Inaugural Gelato World Cup Adventure

The 2024 Gelato World Cup marked a historic moment for Taiwan, making its debut in the world's largest ice cream competition. The journey began with Taiwan's outstanding performance at the Asian Gelato Cup in Singapore, earning them a coveted ticket to compete with 11 other nations at the Italian Gelato Cup finals.

On January 23, 2024, the SIGEP exhibition venue in Rimini, Italy, set the stage for the grand finale. Teams, led by a team leader and comprised of four players each, faced the formidable task of creating six exquisite ice products and three intricate crafts over three days. Guided by the whimsy of Alice in Wonderland, Taiwan's team seamlessly blended innovation and artistry, bringing the magic of fantasy to life in their creations.

An Artistic Challenge: The Taiwanese Team's Wonderland

As the head instructor of the Taipei City University of Technology Baking Department and esteemed mentor, Professor Leo Lee (李國溢), embodies a commitment to excellence that resonates deeply with Chewco's values. He emphasized the importance of practical learning experiences and hands-on training, which he believes are essential for shaping well-rounded and skilled bakers. Through Chewco's partnership, Professor Leo's students were able to gain exposure to the global baking stage, an opportunity that will undoubtedly shape their future careers.

Xu Yuwei (徐宇薇), a student of Professor Lee and member of the Gelato World Cup team, expressed her excitement, saying, "Being able to go to Italy to visit SIGEP in person is already an exciting thing, but also being able to participate in the Ice Cream World Cup at this exhibition and compete on the stage with the players of each team." Yuwei highlighted that being part of the competition sparked a deeper interest in baking innovations. Now, she wants to try more challenging technologies and keep pushing herself to enhance her skills and creativity.

Celebrating a Sweet Future

The journey to Italy was not without its challenges. Beyond the creativity and artistry lay the logistical feat of transporting all ingredients, equipment, and displays from Taiwan to Italy. Despite these hurdles, the Taiwanese team exhibited resilience and innovation, securing a commendable sixth place in their first competition, competing against 11 powerful countries.

As we celebrate the accomplishments of the Taiwanese team, we recognize that this journey is just the beginning. The Gelato World Cup experience goes beyond rankings; it is about the precious insights gained, the inspiring cross-cultural perspective, and a shared love for baking that transcends borders.

At Chewco, the adventure continues, and the possibilities are as endless as the art of baking itself. Together, let us continue to support and uplift the baking community, inspiring future generations to dream big, create boldly, and embark on their own flavorful journeys. Cheers to the many delicious victories that lie ahead!
